Lida Vackova

Throughout her professional career, Ms. Vackova gained experience in program management, research, analysis, advocacy, fundraising, and partnership-building. Starting in the largest NGO in Central Europe, People in Need, in 2007, she mainly worked on capacity building and assistance to civil society representatives in Eastern Europe (Belarus, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan).

After joining Freedom House in 2012, she focused on Eastern Partnership Region countries and the Russian Federation, with particular attention to work with human rights defenders, journalists, and civic activists. During 2018 – 2021 she was Eurasia Regional Specialist of the Emergency Assistance Program providing direct aid, rehabilitation, and relocation assistance to human rights defenders, activists, and victims of political persecution.

Since October 2021, Ms. Vackova has managed a team of eleven Regional Specialists to process inquiries and applications from at-risk human rights defenders and CSOs globally.
